Guides for using GGS and AFS

Tutorial made by Roamer

Hi,

This thread is meant as a guide to applying content you will find on this forum.
I started a thread like this during PES6 so thought I'd create a new one for the new version.
This is quite a graphic heavy post so please wait for the images to load.

CONTENTS:

1. What are .img files
2. Using AFS Explorer
3. Using Game Graphic Studio

-These are the core game files.
-To apply much of the content in this forum you'll be using one of the tools mentioned to import edited content into the core game files.
-The .img files are themselves made up of many smaller files called .bin files.
-Within the .bin files are the graphic files, with a .bin typically relating to one ingame item,
eg. A boot, A ball or the Home&Away Kit for 1 team.
-The core game files are:

[ cv_0.img ]
Holds the majority of the graphical content including Kits, Faces and Boots

[ cv_1.img ]

Has additional graphical content. This includes Balls.

[ rv_'x'.img ]
Where x corresponds to your language version. English being rv_e. This is the regional graphic file.

[ cs.img ]
This is the core sound file and contains the chants.

[ rs_'x'.ing ]

This is the regional sound file where the x is the same as your rv_x. This contains commentary files.

-Some content is split across the graphic core files and as such will require you to import into cv_0, cv_1 and/or rv_e files.

AFS Explorer is a tool used to apply edited .bin files over the core .bin files found in the .img files.
It is priarily used to import large numbers of .bins and you will commonly be asked to use it to apply big patches.

1. Open up AFS Explorer and go to -->file --> Import AFS file
2. Now go to C:/ProgramFiles/KONAMI/Pes2008/img and select the file you want to open (eg cv_0.img)
3. Now AFS Explorer will open up the .img file with the .bin file contents visible.

Sometimes AFS Explorer may display the above error messages after trying to open one of the .img files.
This usually happens if you have previously edited the file using GGS (a tool mentioned below).
Open it anyway it is fine (the file is not corrupt as it says).
1. Click No
2. Click No
3. Click Ok
4. Click Yes
5. Click Ok

1. With .img file open in AFS Explorer click -->Action -->Import Folder
2. Select the folder which contains the .bin files you wish to import
3. You will most likely see this message asking to rebuild. Click Yes
4. Click Ok
5. Choose a new temporary name for the file eg 'cv_0new.img'
6. Wait for it to rebuild
7. Click Ok
8. Importing files box appears, and the files will be added
9. Click No. Now close AFS Explorer
10. Go to you C:/ProgramFiles/KONAMI/pes2008/img folder and move your original .img somewhere safe or rename it (eg cv_0backup.img).
Now rename your new .img file to the the default (eg cv_0new.img to cv_0.img)

GGS is Game Graphic Studio. A tool that can also be used to import .bin files. More importantly it can open up the .bin files so you can see and edit the graphics files hidden within them.
It's most common use is to apply graphic images, such as kits, boots, faces and balls directly into the .bin files.
If you see a kit .png its almost definite you'll have to insert it using GGS, unless someone else has already inserted into a .bin file.

1. To open the .img core game file go -->file --> Open. The same applies if just opening a individual .bin files you may have downloaded.
2. Select the file you wish to open.
3. It will ask you if you wish to use 'artificial subfolders' if you are opening a big .img file containing many .bins. Click Ok to make it easier to navigate through the .bins
4. The file will now load with the progress in the right hand corner (note on my pc it takes much longer to load if the window is maximised)
5. To open a specific .bin file scroll through the list on the left hand column. When you click on a .bin its graphic contents will be shown along the bottom.

Great tutorial mate.
I have one question - How do I change or replace the .png file in GGS with my own .png file??? I see the .png file but I cannot figure out how to replace it. The only thing I can do is right-click on the .bin file and select Import over this file but that is not how it work.
Thanks for this great tutorial.

"Now check the screenshot and set your GGS with the same options from there. So wait until the img file is rebuild and ready. Then you will be able to import all ..."

Where is the screenshot mate? The screensot above just shows me hoiw to open a .img file. I don't see any options there.
Thanks,
Mick

I don't get an error mate. I just can't figure out how to replace the .png file.
Lets say I open cv06.img with GGS and I find my unnamed_xxxx.bin file I want to edit. I click on the unnamed_xxxx.bin and I can see the .png files in the bottom screen. Here is a screeshot: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=309hlok&s=4
